Access to Shimoda without the Hassle
Kawazu is a village of about 7,000 on the southern coast of Shizuoka’s Izu Peninsula, about 10 kilometers north of Shimoda’s famous Shirahama beach.
While accessible by train, this is a secluded region. From Shinagawa Station on the JR Odoriko, it takes ~2.5 hours to reach Kawazu.
But that’s part of the charm of a place like Kawazu. Instead of throngs of rushing business people, you’re surrounded by songbirds, babbling brooks, and the rustle of trees.
With a number of high-end restaurants, landmarks like the Nanadaru Falls and eponymous river’s cherry trees, and spectacular sunrises and sunsets, you’ll do yourself a treat by setting up shop here.
A Little Love Goes a Long Way
This property is only about a 5 minute walk from Kawazu Station, and comes equipped with all you’d need for your first foray into the world of inaka.
The owners still have use for the property, so this doesn’t qualify as akiya, but it does qualify as a great deal on a large plot in an easy to access area of an idyllic region of rural Japan.
It also means that you won’t have to worry much about major renovations because it’s still a functional abode.
That bath could probably use a bit of love, though, huh?
