Description
Ashigara Tea Tin
This Ashigara Tea tin is from Yugawara in Kanagawa. Like many municipalities in Japan, Yugawara has many akiya, and they are a problem. However, what sets this city apart is their novel akiya services! As a result of those services, we bring you this and other products.
As of October 2021, Yugawara started official akiya Pick-a-Parts, in part thanks to the 湯河原真鶴熱海交流会 Facebook group. Their events are excellent examples of what can be done to help sell akiya, and we gladly participate.
How does this help sell akiya? Great question! Often enough, vacant or abandoned houses still contain various possessions inside. Thus, someone needs to clean them up, usually a disposal contractor, which can cost a buyer between ¥200,000 – ¥500,000. Understandably, not everyone wants to pay for this. As a result, many akiya remain unclean, and are harder to sell.
To address this, Yugawara had the smart idea of inviting the public in to take whatever they like!
This unique Ashigara Tea tin originated from an akiya in the Miyakami district of Yugawara, Kanagawa Prefecture. Akiya & Inaka had the pleasure to attend. It is perfect for storing tea, green or otherwise… or anything else for that matter!
